CTVR Funding Announced
We are most delighted to have secured funding for the next five years of our CTVR research programme. The announcement was made yesterday at our Plenary Meeting. Once a year all of the CTVR researchers get together for this Plenary Meeting. The Minister for Research and Innovation, Seán Sherlock T.D. announced our Government funding of €19.5million, together with an industry contribution of almost €4.8 million. So as you can imagine we are most delighted. Science Foundation of Ireland is the Government agency providing the funding and we had to go through an extremely tough review process to prove we made the grade!
Minister Sherlock attended the opening part of the Plenary Meeting to make the announcement. I have to say he is a complete breath of fresh air. He is open, articulate, intelligent, sincere and warm. He seems to have picked up a lot in the short time that he has been the Minister for Research & Innovation. He seems very open about that he has lots more to learn about his brief. He seems to be truly interested in his work and eager for input. I think he has the makings of being one of the best Ministers we have. And btw I am not saying this because we got funding!!! Ireland needs a lot of new thinking and even more importantly needs strong leadership. I hope Minister Sherlock will be the kind of Minster to be a leader in society and I think the signs are good.
